The American Red Cross International Services Department (ISD) seeks to prevent and alleviate human suffering around the world by responding to disasters, building safer, more resilient communities, and educating future humanitarians. In the coming years the American Red Cross will deepen and expand its programming around the world while also working to strengthen the global Red Cross Red Crescent network, in order to deliver vital help and hope to some of the most vulnerable communities.

SUMMARY:

ISD seeks an undergraduate or graduate student intern to support its Information Management Unit. The intern will be responsible for research and data entry about international disaster responses and long-term humanitarian programs. Specifically, this will involve sourcing, cleaning and entering relevant data into an Access database. We are looking for someone who can work for a period of 15 to 20 hours per week beginning in January for a period of twelve weeks. This internship is paid.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research and data entry from primary and secondary information sources.
  • Review secondary source documents and develop systematic approach to data collection and entry.
  • Work independently to complete historic data transfer and verification.
  • Develop new forms and reports from existing Access database.
  • Other ad hoc tasks as needed, such as drafting and/or editing information products for International Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in international affairs, statistics, economics, international development or related fields.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, and ability to identify gaps and take the initiative to address them.
  • Must be an experienced Microsoft Access user and be comfortable with data entry, building queries and creating new forms and reports.
  • Must be comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and conducting desk research.
  • Familiarity with the American Red Cross and/or the global Red Cross network is helpful.
