The purpose of this internship is to increase the understanding of Holocaust research methodologies and history and to learn how to set up a meeting/seminar/workshop and appreciate what makes each of these forms of academic exchange successful for both participants and CAHS. The intern will understand the process for producing organized, accurate, ntellectually stimulating, and readable publications as well as learn how the work of scholarship supports the important mission of the Museum.

Assist CAHS staff in preparing for and conducting scholarly programs and publications designed to (1) strengthen Holocaust teaching in colleges and universities, and (2) serve as venues for the presentation of new research in the field of Holocaust studies. These programs include but are not limited to scholarly symposia and annual lectures, panel presentations; campus outreach visits; and university visits to the Museum. Assist University Programs and Campus Outreach senior staff as necessary in preparing for Center workshops and symposia, and with outreach opportunities. Provide research assistance for publications in such archives as the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Library of Congress, and the National Archives and Records Administration. Perform a variety of tasks in helping to prepare manuscripts for publication.

Qualifications and skills

Applicants for this position are expected to be graduate students early in their studies or senior level undergraduate students who are either conducting or planning to conduct research in Holocaust studies. Applicants are expected to have specialized research skills and good historical knowledge of Holocaust-related topics as well as familiarity with scholarly publications and archival holdings in this field. Must possess thorough knowledge of scholarly bibliographic forms and advanced computer skills for use in various databases and bibliographic searches. Must be generally available throughout the fall. Good communications skills necessary (English). Foreign languages useful (especially German, Polish, and Yiddish).
