Business Development Intern

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

Los Angeles

Organizational Unit: Los Angeles, Business Development

10 Hours/week ideal

Immediate Supervisor: Business Development Coordinator

Function – Scope Statement:

This role will provide assistance to the Business Development Coordinator in Los Angeles with administrative duties, development assistance and strengthening our network with LA businesses in the community.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for assisting the Business Development Coordinator in LA Office with administrative responsibilities (for example: filing, stapling, creating packets, updating calendars, emailing, phone calls, follow-up calls, searching internet, etc.) as well as providing customer service for current business relationships.
  1. Perform research and contact businesses AHA can build a relationship with, for event related items.
  1. Help with general office work (ie. Stuffing and mailing out packets/envelopes, making copies)
  1. Attend corporate health fairs with other AHA staff or by yourself on a needed basis for the promotion of Heat Walk.
  1. Assist at Heart Walk events.
  1. Performs other duties as necessary to meet the responsibilities of this position or as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  1. Assist with recruiting volunteers for each Heart Walk event.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • note: Please do not apply if you do not meet the requirements below.*

  1. Minimum time commitment: 3 months, reporting three times a week in the office.
  1. Previous internship experiences a plus or work experience in customer service and administrative duties.
  1. Need basic email/phone etiquette with excellent marketing and communication skills.
  1. Ability and willingness to travel and possess reliable transportation.
  1. Willingness to work independently during and possibly willing to work irregular working hours for events.
  1. Have proven oral and written communications and interpersonal skills. Bilingual is preferred but not required.
  1. Basic experience in using computers for word processing, data spreadsheets and internet research.
  1. Must be available to intern in the morning. Must live within 15 mile radius of Downtown LA. We are not able to reimburse for mileage and we do not provide vouchers for parking.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Physical requirements include: sight, hearing, sitting, standing, bending, or squatting for most of the day; skills essential for successful communications include: speaking over the phone and writing. Ability to interact and communicate with customers, and to clearly and concisely exchange ideas, facts and information. Ability to effectively plan and manage workflow, work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage project details with limited supervision. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds with the expectation that items in excess of 20 pounds would be broken down into smaller components or additional assistance is required before lifting. Ability to conceptualize, reason through problems, makes effective decisions and develop alternative solution and provides excellent customer service while ensuring compliance with the American Heart Association's policies and procedures.
