Through research, financial efforts and outreach, LiVelocity empowers gay, bisexual, and same gender loving men of color, encourages them to live their lives openly, provides education, advocacy, & social support services, and seeks to change the hearts and minds of others to the side of equality. LiVelocity will also provide funding support for initiatives that empower LGBTQ persons in urban communities.
We are looking for a creative, motivated and energetic individual who has demonstrated strong writing abilities to fulfill this role.
Your primary responsibilities and duties would include the following:
- Develop and manage the public relations strategy for the organization to further advance the long term goals of LiVelocity.
- Develop strong relations with key national and local LGBTQ and mainstream media to increase visibility of LiVelocity.
- Directly pitch positive news stories to the media via telephone and email.
- Develop and maintain media lists and coordinate media measurement.
- Foster grassroots efforts to build support for LiVelocity programs in new states to include coordination of letters to the editor, developing press contacts, developing partnerships with other organizations and groups.
- Create opportunities for publication and presentation by the LiVelocity Board and staff at critical conferences and in key publications.
- Develop public relations campaigns for all recruitment events to increase participation and enrollment in LiVelocity programs.
- Write news stories, feature articles, blog articles, Op-Eds.
- Write press releases and advisories.
- Assume publicist responsibilities as assigned.
- Manage e-newsletter development and newsletters for partners and internal staff.
- Research and write backgrounders and position papers.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
