Position Announcement – November 2012

FUNDRAISING/PROGRAM INTERN

Greater Newark LISC seeks a current undergraduate/graduate student to support the Executive Director in the areas of fundraising, donor stewardship, communications and grants management. The intern will also support various programmatic and administrative activities within the organization. The Fundraising Intern should be a high-energy, confident individual with excellent research, outreach and database/computer skills. The applicant should be comfortable working on multiple priorities and assignments, detail-oriented, flexible, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and be a team player.

Major responsibilities

  1. Outreach: Attend events and meetings on behalf of LISC. He/she may give presentations about LISC to various audiences. He/she will also participate in event outreach, tabling, and logistics.
  2. Research: Conduct prospect research and write summary papers on corporations, foundations, and individuals, using internet, print and electronic sources, as well as in-house files and documents.
  3. Fundraising Planning: Assist in helping to develop and execute the LISC fundraising strategy and/or grants management system. Also will assist with grant writing.
  4. Communications/Social Media: Research and engage in new social media tools for fundraising.
  5. General and Administrative Support: Support LISC fundraising, outreach and general program efforts. Assist the Executive Director and staff as needed.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required;
  • Fundraising experience/database management helpful;
  • Grant writing or other strong written ability;
  • Public speaking and outreach experience;
  • Graphic design experience (Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator);
  • Interest in community development issues strongly encouraged;
  • Familiarity with non-profit organizations a plus.

Additional Information

  • Fall, Winter, Spring/Summer positions available (4-month commitment requested, with possibility of extension.)
  • Part-Time (approximately 15-20 hours/week)
  • A maximum stipend amount of $1,000 available per semester (4-month period).
  • Applicants must provide confirmation from an academic institution that participants will receive credit toward a degree.
  • Candidates may be required to attend meetings outside of traditional business hours.
