The purpose of the Shelter A Family Intern is to provide assistance to the Shelter-A-Family Social Worker at the Shelter-A-Family locations with the transition from structured residential treatment to an independent living environment. This will include; providing individual and family counseling; conducting community groups (i.e., Parenting Skills classes); assisting residents in the development of Individual Service Plans; making appropriate referrals; interfacing with Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Physical Health staffs; monitoring outside meeting attendance; interfacing with DFACS and other agencies and assisting residents in planning community activities.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Facilitating a mental health/behavioral health group.
- Facilitating the expansion of the SAF program into a Pilot Family Success Center by way of conducting research on community needs, available resources, and rendering services to community participants.
- Help with the tracking and documentation of the program.
- Will participate in Intakes, orientation, and mental health screening of incoming participants.
- Train to facilitate groups.
- Participate in monthly staff development and on-site partners meeting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Intern must be in a graduate program leading to a degree in Social Work, Counseling, Social Services, Education or closely related field.
