SeaWeb, an international, nonprofit, communications organization dedicated to creating a culture of ocean conservation, seeks an Intern to be based in the Washington, D.C. area office. The Intern will provide professional support to the organization's communications team. SeaWeb is looking for an individual with experience in photography and videography to conceptualize, create, and edit photo essays and video interviews for our outreach initiatives.

This is an unpaid internship. It is an exciting opportunity for someone who is dedicated to improving ocean conservation and gaining experience working for a non-profit organization, building a portfolio, and gaining valuable career skills. Hours are flexible to accommodate class schedule or other commitments. We request a minimum commitment of 20 hours a week, and prefer someone who can work four days a week, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, or 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Responsibilities:

Communications Projects (100% of time):

  • Supporting image and data migration to a new website (Wordpress)
  • Photographing local SeaWeb events
  • Editing images, archiving, and uploading images to our website(s)
  • Videotaping interviews with Washington DC based leaders in ocean conservation
  • Editing footage into short (3-minute) videos
  • Uploading and annotating videos on our YouTube channel and websites
  • Supporting program administration

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of at least two college courses on videography, photography, image editing and/or post-production
  • Basic experience in conceptualizing photo essays and creating simple storyboards
  • 1-2 years experience with Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign
  • Proficiency using web visual media services such as YouTube and Flickr
  • Passion for communicating visually
  • Interest in environmental issues
  • Experience in Wordpress a plus
  • Access to a digital camera a plus

Our Washington, D.C. office is located in Silver Spring, Maryland (within one block from the Silver Spring Metro station).
