Corporate Accountability International - Online Advocacy Internship (Boston, MA)
For 35 years, Corporate Accountability International has successfully challenged corporations like Nestlé, General Electric, and Philip Morris to halt abusive practices that threaten human rights, public health, the environment and our democracy. The organization is leading campaigns challenging some of the world's most powerful industries in food and agriculture, water and tobacco. Our internships are a unique opportunity to gain valuable organizing and non-profit experience. This is a hands-on program, designed to mentor and cultivate students interested in social justice, strengthen their understanding of a fast-paced campaign organization, and prepare them with the skills and experience necessary to challenge corporate abuse.
The Online Advocacy Internship is a skills-building internship in which interns will take on significant projects to advance Corporate Accountability International's mission, support campaign work and assist the communications team. The intern will gain experience updating the website, designing visual assets, assisting in outreach to the Online Action Network and online social networks and researching social reach for allies and key constituencies. The projects will be coupled with training sessions on action planning, campaign research, media outreach, fundraising and many other topics.
Major Responsibilities
- Work with communications staff to update the website, including designing web content;
- Assist with email communication to our Online Action Network;
- Sustain and expand social media reach through research and development of systems;
- Design and develop sharable images and graphics for the website and social media;
- Overall assistance with administration of the online program;
- Participate in campaign and organizational building activities.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to corporate accountability and progressive social change;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Good organizational skills, attention to detail, professional demeanor and the ability to juggle several tasks while meeting deadlines;
- Good computer skills and tech-saviness;
- Active engagement with various social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Flickr, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.;
- Web editing experience preferred with knowledge of HTML, Drupal, Google Analytics and/or e-commerce a plus – training will also be given;
- Experience in a high-energy campaign or non-profit setting preferable.
- Graphics/ design and multimedia editing experience a plus (including InDesign, Photoshop, etc) – training will also be provided.

Location: Boston, MA
Duration and Hours:
- Summer: May 29th- August 16th, 2013. During the summer this is a full-time internship.
- Fall: September to December, 2013. A minimum commitment of 15-20 hours /week with occasional additional hours for events is required. Days are flexible depending on student schedule and internship manager needs
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship, however, a transportation stipend of $150 will be provided and students may receive course credit for their internship.
Training: Classroom sessions and ongoing trainings will be provided by senior campaign staff.
