DESCRIPTION

Waite House is in the process of creating a new model for public computer centers. Once the model is completed at our site, we will replicate it at other Pillsbury United Community Centers around Minneapolis. The Information Technology Intern will assist in this process and help as we develop classes and programs that utilize the new computer centers. The internship offers great opportunities for creativity and will give excellent experience in developing networks, troubleshooting technology issues, and helping bridge the digital divide by "translating" the world of technology for people who are new to computers.

DUTIES

  • Assist staff in the development of a computer network for the Waite House computer center
  • Help staff replicate the Waite House computer lab model at other Pillsbury United Community Centers
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of a computer network maintenance manual
  • Assist with the implementation of IT projects, developing project plans, facilitating project related meetings, and reporting progress to stakeholders.
  • Provide assistance to Waite House employees and volunteers with systems operations, hardware, and software problems and setting up computer hardware and software.
  • Inventory management, including but not limited to licenses, hardware, warranties, and our tech support "cheat sheets"
  • This will be a six month internship with a possibility of extension based on agreement between both parties

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Recently completed or currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computational Linguistics, Computer Science or related discipline
  • Strong desire to learn new technologies
  • Strong problem solving and issue resolution skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally to both technical and non-technical users
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize work and communicate issues in a timely manner
