As an Organizing intern, you will work directly with Health Care Justice professional organizer/staff. Under the guidance of staff, interns will work on a wide range of projects aimed at securing accessible, affordable, and quality health care for all.

Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to campaigns in the following ways:

  • Engage in advocacy efforts on behalf of consumers, especially low-income community members, and communities of color, in coalition with other organizations and groups.
  • Drafting letters, fact sheets, action alerts, and other advocacy materials.
  • Tracking news and research
  • Assisting in creating Listservs and database maintenance for our web-based action alert system • Assist organizers in outreach to other advocacy organizations, religious groups, labor organizations, elected officials, businesses, and citizen activists
  • Tabling on behalf of CBHC at events and festivals
  • Assisting organizers in coordinating campaign events to engage citizens and pressure targets
  • Participate in community organizing efforts to engage community members, such as door-knocking, street outreach, one-on-one meetings,
  • Assist in planning, coordinate, and facilitate regular meetings of community members to discuss issues and plan campaigns,
  • Help engage in leadership development to empower community members to take leadership on campaigns,
  • Conduct educational activities for community members to inform them of issues that are impacting consumers across Illinois.
  • Recruit "story sharers" to help inform, educate and mobilize the public and lawmakers.
  • and conduct other clerical and office duties as needed.

DETAILS OF INTERNSHIP: • Supervision: Intern will be supervised by the Chicago CBHC staff • Compensation: While internships are not paid positions, academic credit has been arranged in the past and can be arranged. • Hours: Interns are expected to work a minimum of 16 hours per week. • Duration: Spring Semester, 12 weeks minimum.
