Pacific Science Center has over 280 active volunteers that touch all of the Science Center's seven divisions. The Volunteer Program Intern will be involved with a variety of Volunteer Management functions, including: updating training materials, developing volunteer orientation presentations, volunteer database management, and streamlining of administrative processes.

Applicants with strong attention to detail and an interest or background in volunteer management, project management, and non-profit administration are typically well suited for this position.

Reports To: Volunteer Specialist
Position Start Date: January, 2013 (10 week internship)
Time Commitment: 9-12 hours a week
Schedule: Intern needs to be able to work on-site at the Pacific Science Center, occasional weekend and evening duties may be assigned

Job Duties:

  • Assist with updating volunteer training materials
  • Assist with developing new volunteer orientation presentations
  • Co-facilitate new volunteer orientations
  • Assist with volunteer database management (Volgistics database) and administrative functions
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by Volunteer Specialist

Learning Opportunities

  • Develop high-level administrative skills associated with developing new training materials and utilizing a volunteer database
  • Strengthen communication skills through co-facilitation of new volunteer orientations
  • Demonstrate leadership skills while working in a team environment
  • Gain insight into the inner-workings of a busy Science Center Volunteer Program with a demanding work-load

Position Requirements:

  • Working toward a degree in Museology, Non-Profit Administration, Education, Project Management or related field preferred
  • Strong skills in word processing, desktop publishing and document production
  • Must have very strong attention to detail
  • Willingness to co-facilitate trainings
  • Experience editing, writing, and/or strong grammar skills preferred
  • Must be able to provide 3 references and pass a background check

  • Experience and familiarity with Microsoft Office software
  • Demonstrated written communication skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
