About the Internship

We are seeking an Intern for a wonderful opportunity to learn how to write impactful blogs that motivate audiences to take action in support of Pachamama causes. Interns will also learn how to use relevant keywords that will drive more traffic to our site, a process called search engine optimization (SEO). The Intern will research topics and current events related to our work, and then create marketable content that can increase the number of visitors coming to our websites, and increase the number people engaging in our educational programs and calls to action. You will work with a highly effective and skilled communications team, reporting directly to our department's lead writer. You will be thoroughly trained and grounded in our mission and the issues of interest to our audience, providing you valuable non-profit work experience that will support your resume in any future work. You may also engage in a variety of other tasks that support the Communications Department. You can visit the staff section of our website to meet the team.

Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will be focused around producing marketable content for our blog and website:

  • Research topics related to our work
  • Stay up to date with current events related to our work and author blog posts about them
  • Publish your content to Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks
  • Optimize your content to show up in search results
  • Respond to comments on your content
  • Track the effectiveness of your content through Google Analytics and social media insights

You may also be asked to participate in other responsibilities to support the Communications Department:

  • Create innovative and engaging Facebook and Twitter posts
  • Author press releases
  • Write and send "pitch" emails to bloggers and journalists
  • Assist with a variety of other communications tasks as needed

If you possess an advanced skill-set, there are opportunities for supporting paid advertising campaigns, building HTML email campaigns and web pages, and creating graphics.

Experience

  • The ideal candidate has previous writing and research experience, is interested in marketing and communications, and is excited about using online tools to make a difference in the world
  • Experience in Search Engine Optimization, Facebook and Twitter maintenance is preferred, but not required
  • Bilingual Spanish speaker with translation experience preferred, but not required

Details

  • Interns are expected to commit to 15 to 20 hours per week for 3 to 4 months
  • This is an unpaid internship
  • You will work in our office in the Presidio of San Francisco, CA
  • The ideal candidate is someone interested in marketing and communications and who is excited about using online tools to make a difference in the world

About The Pachamama Alliance

The Pachamama Alliance partners with the indigenous Achuar of the Ecuador Amazon to preserve their land and culture from the threat of development and resource extraction. Using insights gained from this work, we deliver workshops around the world designed to inspire and educate individuals everywhere to shift the dream of the modern world that drives the consumption threatening the Achuar.
