Internship Job Description:
The Thomas Merton Center is looking for a student who is a majoring in journalism to join the editorial collective of the New People, a publication of the Thomas Merton Center.
The New People is the peace and justice newspaper of Pittsburgh and the Tri-State area. Published 11 times a year, it fills the voids left by the mainstream by providing a media outlet reflecting the reality of progressive, alternative politics locally, nationally and globally.
The intern would work with a group of volunteers known as the TMC Editorial Collective that works on developing a theme, soliciting and writing articles for the paper.
The collective meets three times a month to work on the paper. The intern would be asked to attend meetings and work at the Thomas Merton Center office when available to facilitate the production of the paper. The intern could also edit articles from home, or attend local peace and justice events to write articles for the paper.
The Thomas Merton Center is open Monday-Friday from 10:00-3:00 and Saturday from 10:00-1:00. Time commitment is flexible depending on the intern's schedule.
Past issues of the New People are available on-line at www.thomasmertoncenter.org - under New People.
