Internship Description

CalSERVES, an organization in partnership with Americorps, is seeking an intern to advocate for funding in the communities who need it most.

Internship duties may include:

  • Participating in the save service campaign
  • Drafting letters to Senators, Congressmen, and local newspapers
  • Inviting elected officials to visit our program

The Advocacy Intern position grants meaningful experience while using your skill set to support statewide and local AmeriCorps projects. This position will give you the opportunity to lead, educate, and strategize in community outreach and advocacy.

AmeriCorps is a federally-funded community service program. Across the country, more than 83,000 AmeriCorps members who serve each year are helping communities respond to disasters, improve education, expand economic opportunity, provide health services, protect the environment and support veterans and military families. In the past 17 years, more than 706,000 AmeriCorps members have given 860 million hours of service to America, mobilizing tens of millions of volunteers and improving the lives of countless citizens.

In 2011, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution to eliminate funding for the Americorps program. The resolution did not make it through senate with the help of advocates for Americorps. Today, Americorps funding is still struggling.
