For MAJORS IN: ●BUSINESS/MARKETING ●PUBLIC POLICY/AFFAIRS ● JOURNALISM (at least junior year of college or in a Master's Program)

Oganization: The American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC) / www.asbcouncil.org/

Location: New York

Timeframe: As soon as possible, through Spring semester or longer, TBD

Availability: 10-20 hours/week

ASBC Description: The American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC) is a growing coalition of business networks totaling over 150,000 businesses committed to building a vibrant, just, and sustainable economy. ASBC has quickly become a leading national voice advocating for public policies that support sustainable economies and triple bottom line businesses. Our issues include: clean energy, taxes, benefit corporations, toxic chemical policy reform, financial reform, fair elections, sustainable agriculture, health care, small business capital access, and more.

Internship Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated, self-directed intern to support us in our public policy work in New York. The current opportunity in NY merits one with aspirations for a career in the public interest that demands skills in marketing and social media in the service of membership, partnership, and financial resource development.

Candidates must have strong organizational, communication, and research skills, be web savvy, and have a passion for sustainable economic legislative action and policy reform. Experience in marketing and communication or on Capitol Hill, within a government agency, or with an advocacy organization is a plus.

Required Qualifications

  • Support the mission of ASBC
  • Be at least in the junior year of college or in a Masters Program
  • Major in Business/Marketing, Public Policy/Affairs, Journalism
  • Be available to work in New York City or the Metropolitan Area
  • Ability to commit at 10-20 hours per week
  • Strong organizational skills and a commitment to detail
  • Strong communication skills

Responsibilities include:

  • Working on membership development, foundation relations, special projects
  • Providing support for ASBC Working Group on Women
  • Coordinating production team for ASBC monthly webinar, ACA event, ABC Home
  • Calling organizations & businesses to gather information and follow up/ through
  • Internet research
  • Scheduling calls & meetings
  • Updating web content
