LawNY Now Accepting Applications for Summer 2013 Law Student Interns
Legal Assistance of Western New York (LawNY) is a non-profit law firm providing free civil legal assistance to low-income residents in 14 counties. Internships are available in our offices in Bath, Geneva, Ithaca, Jamestown, Olean, and Rochester. Students may have opportunities to work with attorneys in such practice areas as public benefits, housing, health, family, elder, consumer, employment, and ex-offender reentry, among others.
LawNY seeks motivated law student applicants with excellent legal research and communication skills and a commitment to public interest practice. Legal interns are generally expected to volunteer at least 30 hours per week for a 10 week period. LawNY does not offer paid internships, but will support students in obtaining school credit or funding if applicable. Interns are encouraged to apply to the Equal Justice Works Summer Corps Program, which offers education awards of $1,175 to all participants. More information is available online at equaljusticeworks.org/law-school/summercorps.
TO APPLY: Students may apply for by emailing a resume, cover letter, and writing sample--preferably as a single PDF--to lsap@lawny.org. Cover letters should detail applicant preferences for location(s) and area(s) of practice, relevant experience, and commitment to public interest practice. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
