SALES AND MARKETING VOLUNTEER

Company Description

kar.ma coffee (http://www.facebook.com/karmacoffeenp) is a dynamic social enterprise and coffee boutique based in Nepal offering coffee inspired products and services. kar.ma coffee's products and services include handcrafted coffee from the best Nepali Arabica coffee beans, specialty tea from Ilam, hand baked cookies and biscotti, hand brew coffee equipment, and gifts such as recycled coffee paper notebooks and lampshades, home decorations, artwork, and coffee cosmetics. kar.ma coffee also organizes events such as coffee cupping and coffee farm tours for the curious coffee aficionado at heart.

Position Description

The Sales and Marketing volunteer is responsible for assisting the Founder and Director of kar.ma coffee with showroom management and retail sales of the company's products and services at its Lalitpur based boutique showroom and coffeehouse. Kar.ma Coffee seeks a dynamic, confident, entrepreneurial, and outgoing individual who is comfortable with "rolling up their sleeves" and taking a hands-on approach to running kar.ma coffee's small boutique, and marketing its products and services. This is an ideal opportunity for somebody interested in sales, marketing, and small enterprise development.

kar.ma coffee seeks volunteers who are able to commit to working at least 20 hours a week.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct customer service to showroom patrons interested in kar.ma coffee's products and services.
  • Prepare and serve fresh handcrafted filtered coffee.
  • Manage and report on daily product sales, inventory, and recordkeeping.
  • Work closely with the Founder and Director to develop efficient sales and marketing strategies.
  • Research, identify, and reach out to new customers.
  • Gain solid knowledge of kar.ma coffee's products and services including relevant information related to coffee harvest and processing techniques, industry trends etc. as needed.
  • Train other team members and incoming volunteers as needed.

Qualifications

The position requires a responsible, mature candidate who is an independently accountable self-starter, team player, problem solver, and fast learner. This candidate should enjoy working with people and meeting the needs of customers through fast, friendly, and knowledgeable service delivery. The candidate will be able to work in and enjoy a fast-paced changing environment.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to take ownership of responsibilities with minimal oversight
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and timeliness
  • Interest in Nepali coffee/coffee sector
  • Ability to engage with team members and customers of diverse backgrounds
  • Strong command of English and at least a basic command of Nepali (exceptions could be made for current students of Nepali)
  • Minimum commitment of 3 months
  • Previous work experience in business or retail sales desirable
  • Event planning experience desirable
  • Graphic and web design experience desirable

Volunteer opportunities are offered on a Spring, Autumn, and Summer session schedule with the following application deadlines and minimum durations:

Autumn Volunteer – September -> December

Approximate application deadline: July 31

Spring Volunteer – January -> June

Approximate application deadline: November 30

Summer Volunteer - June -> August

Approximate application deadline: April 30

Qualified international volunteers completing their gap year or planning on an extended stay in Nepal are encouraged to volunteer as long as possible. All volunteers are encouraged to seek opportunities to receive academic credit or financial compensation through their academic institution if possible.
