The Vital Voices Latin America Program is looking for talented interns for Spring 2013. Positions are in Washington D.C. and are unpaid. The internships require a minimum of 24 hours per week commitment. Start date is the week of January 14th. End date is flexible.
Internship description:
This position will support the Vital Voices Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) program team. The LAC Intern(s) will work closely with the Program Manager and the Program Coordinator to develop various program areas. Responsibilities may include developing program materials for the Businesswomen's Network, leading research on funding and training opportunities for the LAC program and regional network of chapters, assisting with preparation and logistics for international travel, contributing to the regional newsletter, compiling press, writing blog posts, transcribing interviews in Spanish, English, and Portuguese (according to language skills), and supporting the LAC team with general administrative tasks. Other tasks include researching women's issues and compiling current events. Interns are encouraged to attend various conferences and events in the D.C. area.
The LAC interns will have the opportunity to learn about program development, current, pressing global women's issues, and trends in regional and international women's advocacy. Interns are an integral part of the team, and LAC staff members will work collaboratively with interns to develop their professional skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
A demonstrated interest in women's rights and specific knowledge of the region
Fluency in Spanish required, near-native or native fluency strongly preferred
Portuguese and/or French a plus
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions
Initiative, willingness to learn, and adaptability
Dependability and ability to multi-task
Excellent writing and editing skills in English and Spanish
Exceptional organizational and time management skills
Ability to work creatively, independently, and as a team member
Strong research and analytical skills
Enthusiasm and flexibility
Ability to work within a professional environment
Basic computer literacy with MS Office Suite, including Excel and Publisher
Experience with social media platforms, Salesforce, and/or Salsa preferred
