We are looking for interns who are studying event planning and would like to apply their studies to Girls in Power events. The intern hired for the Event Planning position would be working closely with the Project Coordinator in planning events for Girls in Power empowerment seminars. The Event Coordinating intern would be involved in coordination of the event, organizing print, location, guest speakers, etc. for the event.
Knowledge: currently studying or has studied classes relevant to event planning or coordination; knows how to contact and solicit businesses to allow for events to be held in their venues; knows how to negotiate reasonable prices, or is willing to learn; knows that a no is a no, and it just means a yes is around the corner.
Skills: can write e-mail correspondence or speak on the phone in a persuasive and clear manner; can calmly problem solve, anticipate event preparation and issues that may arise; great interpersonal communication, outgoing personality and organization.
Abilities: able to go out and meet or call businesses to ask for venue information and donation options; able to see the big picture of what needs to happen and the details of what is needed to get there.
Other Characteristics: has good communications skills, positive personality, and must work well with others and run a team; must have the ability to follow directions under supervision and/or independently.
This internship is unpaid however we can provide credit for courses.
