The Japan Society of Northern California is an educational non-profit organization and the West Coast's leading forum on Japan and US-Japan Relations. Our mission is to strengthen cooperation and understanding between the peoples of the United States and Japan in a changing world by providing programs that help to expand knowledge, increase personal interaction and facilitate discussion of important issues. Ever since our founding in 1905, the Japan Society has believed in the power of knowledge and personal contact to bring peoples and countries together. Now, more than 100 years later, we remain dedicated to strengthening the friendship between the United States and Japan. Our members throughout the Bay Area and Northern California enjoy opportunities to meet and learn from leaders in business, politics, society and the arts from both sides of the Pacific.

Our interns provide administrative support to the Japan Society staff: President, Office Administrator and Program Administration. This position requires a pleasant office demeanor, good written and spoken English language skills, good organization with an eye for detail, and the capacity to multi-task. The intern is a part of a small team, demonstrating initiative to solve challenges related to translating our mission into active and enriching programs for people in the Bay Area.

Required Qualifications:
Excellent computer skills including MS Word and Excel
Experience with customized membership databases and data entry (particularly Salesforce)

Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and HTML
Strong English writing and proofreading skills
Knowledge of Japanese culture and/or language
Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as needed
Experience in graphic design and/or brochure production is a plus

Responsibilities:
Maintain Salesforce database
Assist program coordinator with event calendar, fundraising and membership mailings
Assist program coordinator with online marketing campaigns via Facebook, Twitter, etc
Assist staff at Society events
Additional general programming and administrative tasks as needed
