Summary Description

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a national membership organization, founded in 1881. Our mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.

AAUW's Member Leadership Programs department supports and strengthens AAUW member leaders. Currently, the department has three main focus areas:

  • Designing and implementing leadership programs through multi-delivery channels to our members.
  • Leading the organization of the AAUW Biennial Convention
  • Managing the Leadership Corps—a group of experienced AAUW leaders who foster leadership development throughout AAUW.

We are seeking an intern to provide programmatic support. The intern will spend 60% of his/her time assisting with Convention efforts, and 20% of his/her time supporting Leadership Corps and other leadership programming work. This internship is ideal for someone with a passion for leadership development and event planning.

Essential Duties

  • Convention Related:
    • Assist in the management of the program schedule for convention
    • Draft and manage communications with workshop presenters and speakers
    • Assist in coordination of AAUW staff and departments involved in convention planning
    • Assist in convention marketing efforts
    • Track the status of convention projects and events
    • Assist in other convention projects as assigned
  • Leadership Program Related:
    • Assist with the research for and compilation of several case studies of successful and creative leadership in AAUW.
    • Read relevant academic articles and attend relevant Webinars and report out on learning to Member Leadership staff.
  • Other:
    • Assist in the writing of departmental blogs for the AAUW blog site.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong writing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong oral communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Strong interest in women's equity and social justice issues
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel)
