Descripción del evento

In collaboration with the Department of Economics of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, CARE International Sri Lanka is organizing the "International Symposium on Community Governance Practices" (ISCGP) to be held on June 27-28, 2013 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Through ISCGP, CARE is planning to collate and propagate the rich experiences garnered through the implementation of its community governance project—the Local efforts for Empowerment and Development (LEaD) over the last 5 years in the districts of Moneragala and Hambantota in Sri Lanka.

The symposium aims at creating a forum for practitioners, professionals and academics to present and discuss various community governance approaches and contribute to the policy dialogue at the national level as well as to share and learn from each other's experiences and knowledge in the field of community governance.

The organizing committee welcomes research papers and grants proposals from competitive academics, professionals, and practitioners on the themes proposed below. For further information, please visit: http://www.care.lk/iscgp

Research grants proposals to evaluate the community governance model implemented by the LEaD project choosing one of the following aspects:

  1. The effectiveness of the LEaD structure and the process as a participatory community development model to "include the excluded".
  2. The efficiency of the LEaD model to demand and acquire resources and services from the state and other non-state actors (whether the model plays an integral role in addressing the real needs of the rural community).
  3. Relevancy and effectiveness of the LEaD model as a community governance structure in addressing the existing gaps in the local governance system and local administrative system of Sri Lanka.
  4. Impact of the LEaD model in enhancing the social positions of women and youth and other marginalized groups.

  1. Community governance approaches, issues and best practices
