Northern Lights Adventure

Evento

Evento publicado por: International Association of Young Philanthropists

Descripción del evento

Cycle with the Young Philanthropists from Seattle, WA to Juneau, AK! You will cycle through some of the most beautiful scenery in the Northwest and experience the beautiful wilderness of the Alaskan Coast. The route will feature exploration via land and sea (ferries), will include service projects and a classics-based and pragmatically engaging curriculum in Leadership.

The ride will attempt to break the record for the largest self-supported cycling ride (30+) and will seek to raise funds for impoverished children in Honduras (through The YP's partnership with Casa De Luz) and for YP Mentoring programs in the US.

You will connect with and engage individuals and communities along the route in ways that will allow you to gain valuable wisdom from locals, have a blast helping out on a personal level, and form life-long friendships with your traveling companions.

One of the primary ways riders will practice their new ideas regarding leadership will be through community service projects and community engagement—riders will actually get to help plan service projects, public speaking engagements, media interviews, and so much more.

Riders will develop their leadership skills while helping to raise funds for one community through which the route passes and for YP's corporate partnership with Casa De Luz, a Tegucigalpa, Honduras based organization that feeds and educates impoverished Honduran children (and their mothers), in order to build a larger facility in order to serve a much large population.

The aspect of community will be emphasized, in which riders will be expected to engage each other regarding their spiritual, intellectual and emotional ideas and experiences.

Never cycled before? No worries! You'll learn all you need to know about your bike, cycling and cycling safety (and so much more!) in the initial orientation.
