No. But signing up is free and allows you to receive Email Alerts with new opportunities that match your criteria, bookmark listings, save your searches, create a personal profile, make a page for your organization, post listings, connect and communicate with other members, and much more. We hope you'll join us!
It's free to sign up, search for opportunities, connect with others, create a page for your organization, and post events, volunteer opportunities, internships, programs, and resources.
We do charge U.S.-based nonprofit or government organizations $80 for each job posted (for businesses, it's $95), but be sure to check out Job Packs for reduced rates. We also charge U.S.-based organizations $25 ($35 for businesses) for each internship.
Certain activity on the site is shared with everyone or just your connections (depending on your profile privacy as set in your Settings and Privacy): connecting with people and organizations, attending events, sharing listings and organizations, editing your profile, changing your "My Story" status. If you don't want to share this kind of activity, you can set your profile to be completely private.
Your other actions will never be shared with anyone: bookmarking listings, sending and receiving messages, declining or ignoring invitations and requests, and changing log-in information.
Idealist does not have a resume database or provide a direct matching service. It's up to you to find posted opportunities and get in touch with each organization that you are interested in working with.
However, you're more than welcome to include information such as your skills, interests, and goals, and your education, work, and volunteer history on your Idealist profile. You can also update your "My Story" status to announce that you're currently seeking a job.
Log in and hover over your name in the top right corner. Click on "My Profile" when it appears in the dropdown menu. Then click on your image. Choose, upload and crop a photo-- it's easy.
If you'd like to change your email address, log in at Idealist.org and hover over your name in the top right hand corner. Click on Dashboard in the drop down menu , then choose "Settings and Privacy" and you'll find your personal settings, with email addresses on top.
Before you can remove your old email address, you'll have to add and verify the new one. Click the blue plus sign that says "Add an address" and type in your new email address. Click the Save button next to it to complete your changes. We'll send a verification message to your new email address with a link inside. Once you've clicked on this link, navigate back to edit your profile and you'll be able to delete your old email address. You can also keep multiple email addresses if you'd like, and just change which one we send email to by default.
You must add and verify your new email address before you can receive your old one so that you don't inadvertently lose access to your account.
Developing a fully mobile version of Idealist is on our to-do list. In the meantime, to sign up using your mobile device, please visit Idealist.org and click the Sign up button. To log in, please visit Idealist.org and click Log in. Most features will work well, though some parts of the website can be difficult to navigate on small screens.
If you feel you're getting too many emails from us, just log in and at Idealist.org and hover over your name in the top right hand corner. Click on "Dashboard" in the drop down menu under your name, then select "Settings and Privacy" and look for the section that says "Email me when...". Deselect any types of messages that you'd rather not receive, and we'll stop bothering you.
If you also are signed up to receive Email Alerts, you'll have to turn these off separately. There's a link to your Saved Searches/Email Alerts right below the "Email me when..." section, or you can hover over your name in the top right corner, click on "Dashboard" in the dropdown menu, and then "Turn Off" next to any alert you'd like to stop receiving.
Remember that you can always check for the most important updates by visiting your "Inbox" in the drop-down menu under your name. This won't include Email Alerts, but it will include other notifications that our website might send you about your user or organization accounts.
To remove yourself from Idealist, please log in and hover over your name in the top right hand corner. Click on "Dashboard" in the drop down menu, then select "Settings and Privacy" and look for the button near the bottom that says "Delete profile". You'll need to know your password, and sometimes users who've signed up initially with a third-party service like Google or Facebook won't actually have a password. In this case you'll need to send yourself a password reset message to create a new password.
